Baselworld 2016: Presenting the new H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Perpetual Calendar. Hands-on Review, Live Pictures & Pricing.

For Baselworld 2016, H. Moser & Cie. has developed a perpetual calendar in its Pioneer collection that is the first complication of its kind to be water-resistant to 120 meters. The Pioneer collection launched last year, is a bold, modern interpretation of the classy spirit of this manufacture. With a strong design which makes reference to the industrial world, models in this collection are both elegant and sporty, tailored for daily wear. The new H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Perpetual Calendar is easy to use and comfortable to wear. Fitted with a 5N red gold case measuring 42.8 mm in diameter, the new Pioneer Perpetual Calendar is made of several sections. Featuring black DLC-finished titanium inserts on the case band and a black perforated rubber strap with pin buckle or black alligator strap, the watch is simply stunning.

Equipped with an ardoise fumé dia, its leaf-shaped hands are filled with superluminova and complemented by luminescent markers indicating the hours on the flange with fluted structure. The applied markers indicate both the hours and the months, a date aperture is located at 3 o'clock, a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock and a power reserve indicator with a bright green accent at 9 o'clock.

The ultra sporty case in multiple sections is made of solid 5N red gold and black DLC-finished titanium inserts. With a diameter of 42.8 mm and a thickness of 15.0 mm, the case is fitted with a curved sapphire crystal and a display case back. The black DLC-finished titanium screw-down crown is adorned with an “M” for H. Moser & Cie. The watch is water resistant to 120 meters.

The new H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Perpetual Calendar is powered by the HMC 800 manual wound movement. The movement this watch guarantees a generous minimum 7-day power reserve. This in-house movement equipped with 32 jewels beats at a frequency of 18,000 vph to provide a power reserve of a minimum of 7 days. The movement features a double barrel, interchangeable Moser escapement, original Straumann Hairspring with stabilized Breguet overcoil, pallet fork and escapement wheel made from gold. The movement and components are hand-finished and decorated. This perpetual calendar features a perpetual instantaneous calendar and leap year indicator on the movement side.

As for the strap, H. Moser & Cie. has chosen black alligator leather strap but a perforated rubber strap like the one pictured here is also available. This is a perfect watch for every day wear and one that can be worn by the beach or the pool. The strap is fitted with a pin buckle in DLC-coated titanium.

On the wrist, the H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Perpetual Calendar wears more like a 44 mm timepiece and with very special wrist presence. Wearing a watch that only very few know about makes one feel very special. Ultimately there are two types of watch collectors, those that like to wear a watch easily recognized by everyone and those that opt for the exclusive. If you like exclusivity and impeccable craftsmanship, then this is the way to go. Remember H. Moser & Cie. only makes 1,200 watches a year, therefore, very rare indeed.
