To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hublot Big Bang, the brand surprised us at Baselworld 2015 with three exciting limited editions. For those of you that don't know, the first Big Bang to be launched in 2005 was the Big Bang Gold Ceramic, which quickly became the flagship and signature watch for Hublot. Well, 10 years have passed and perhaps over a 100 different limited editions —just guessing— have been presented since then. One of these three new limited edition watches just released this past week at Baselworld 2015 is the new Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon 5-day Power Reserve Indicator Full Magic Gold ref. 405.MX.0138.RX.
In Monsieur Jean-Claude Biver's words: "Nothing can be born without a good idea." His good idea came in 2005, when he came up with the name "Big Bang" based on an idea which is central to the art of fusion, the combining of objects and materials which never appear together under normal conditions, for example rubber and gold. The former is harvested from a tree, the latter mined from deep inside the earth. While they never normally appear together, the Big Bang combines these materials in a striking contrast which appears to bring together past and future. With its 70 components, the Hublot Big Bang embodies the concept of luxury, distinguishing itself through a vast range of subtle refinements. The new Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon 5-day Power Reserve Indicator Full Magic Gold is a perfect example of this fusion.
Following this, a new Full Magic Gold version of the Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve Indicator was unveiled a few months ago pre-Baselworld. The first Tourbillon in the new generation Big Bang line, with a beautiful skeleton movement and an added practical power reserve indicator function on the dial side. Its skeletonized dial featuring a 5-day power reserve indicator at 9 and a tourbillon cage at 6 o'clock is just mesmerizing.
Equipped with the traditional Big Bang case measuring 45 mm in diameter in polished Magic Gold and polished Magic Gold bezel, the six H-shaped black PVD treated titanium screws rise in all glory to provide beautiful contrast. Fitted with a Hublot logo crown in black satin-finished PVD titanium and black overmoulded rubber, this new watch is a true descendent of the Hublot DNA. The hands treated with black superluminova as well as the Arabic numerals, are also made of Magic Gold and provide perfect contrast against the movement mainplate. The watch features the interchangeable strap system at 12 and 6 o'clock on the case lugs. The strap is a structured strap made of ribbed black rubber and fitted with a deployant buckle in black PVD titanium with ceramic plate.
The beating heart inside the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon 5-day Power Reserve Indicator Full Magic Gold is the manual wound in-house calibre HUB6016 entirely developed and produced at Hublot. The calibre is fully visible via the display case back and is a real treat for the eyes. Designed, developed and produced entirely by Hublot's micro-mechanics, engineers and watchmakers, this proprietary movement is a traditional tourbillon with a cage measuring 13.6 mm in diameter —a minute tourbillon that performs one revolution every minute— and whose construction featuring a barrette on the dial side ensures its stability. It has been specially fitted with a practical power reserve indicator, visible on the dial side, and has also been remodeled with new bridge and main plate architecture.
On the wrist, the watch wears true to its size and with unparalleled wrist presence. The Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon 5-day Power Reserve Indicator Full Magic Gold is available in a limited edition of 50 pieces.
