Originally released in 2018, the Angelus U50 Diver Tourbillon was the brand’s first diver’s watch. With a high level of skeletonization of its movement allowing for maximum transparency and an incredible view of all of its components. Now, along with the release of the Angelus U50 Diver Tourbillon Black Edition comes the new Angelus U51 Diver Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve in a colorful combination of orange and stormy blue. The U51 Diver Tourbillon maintains the same proportions at 45 mm as its predecessor the U50 Diver, in a titanium case that has been slightly redesigned to differentiate it from its U50 siblings.
Things to Know About the Watch
The Angelus U51 Diver Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve features almost the same case as the U50 Diver Tourbillon, with the exception that the bezel and inner bezel had been redesigned and carved out to resemble a wave crest shape throughout. The titanium case still features two large screw-down crowns. The two-position crown at 4 o’clock is used for winding and setting the time, while the crown at 2 o’clock is used to rotate the unidirectional 60-minute flange ring this time in blue and orange. An absolute much better color combination and slightly reminiscent of one of the older IWC Aquatimers 2000.
The inner flange rotates with precision and in a extremely smooth way. Opposite the crowns on the left side of the case at the 9 o’clock position, a helium escape valve is placed. The watch is water resistant to 300 meters. The new Angelus U51 Diver Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve just as its name suggests it, now features a lengthier power reserve. The U51 Diver is delivered on a blue rubber strap embossed with the Angelus “A” logo and equipped with a titanium pin-buckle. The new Angelus U50 Diver Tourbillon Black Edition just like its predecessor is available in a limited edition of only 25 pieces.
The Movement
The new Angelus U51 Diver Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve is powered by the manual wound calibre A-310 with one-minute flying tourbillon. This ultra-slim movement with 23 jewels and silicon lever escapement provides a power reserve of 5 days while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph. The movement is decorated with sandblasted plates and bridges, wheels with Angelus six-spoke design, and tourbillon cage with chamfered and polished edges. The exquisitely finished movement is fully visible via the display case back.
On the Wrist & Pricing
On the wrist, the new Angelus U51 Diver Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve ref. 0TDCT.E01A.K008D wears true to its size and just like the other two U50 Diver Tourbillons from Angelus. However, the wave pattern on the inner and outer bezel, along with the orange and blue colors, make this watch even better looking than its siblings. A great looking tourbillon that won’t break the bank and will also serve the purpose of a diving watch.
