Spotting a Urwerk timepiece in the wild is already a rarity; therefore, running into a Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood with an ebony top case is even rarer. The UR-110 continues to be Urwerk’s radical tradition of telling the time using orbiting satellite complications. In the UR-110, time is always shown on the right side of the watch. In the case of the Urwerk Eastwood, the case measuring 47 mm x 51 mm x 16 mm is made out of ebony precious wood. Unconventional in terms of time telling but also very unconventional in terms of the use of precious wood for the top part of the case. This is the final timepiece in the UR-110 series.
The UR-110 Eastwood like all other UR-110 watches features a control board on the dial side with indicators for Day/Night and Oil Change, as well as small seconds. Each module is mounted on a planetary gear and is in constant counter-rotation to balance the direction of rotation of the central carousel. The “Oil Change” indicator —located in which would be the 8 o’clock position in a conventional timepiece— alerts the user when a service is due and the counter is reset to zero when the timepiece is serviced. The Day/Night indicator is a rotating disk marked with dark superluminova for the night, white for the day and a striped mix for dusk/dawn. Two different versions of this watch exist, one like the one here with red ebony wood and the other with Macassar ebony and fitted with a navy blue with green tweed strap.
As far as the strap, this is one of the most interesting straps out there. Velcro-fastened but made in very heavyweight tweed, the strap matches the wooden part of the case flawlessly. The two different straps that come with the Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood series were made in collaboration with renowned Savile Row tailor Timothy Everest.

On the wrist, the Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood wears surprisingly comfortable for its size and unique shape. Even nicer than its other counterparts and super cool looking thanks to its ebony wood case top. Available in a limited edition of only 5 pieces.
