Founded in 2007 and after the launch of the very successful Sequential One we reviewed here, MCT Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps released the Sequential Two in 2014 also featuring MCT's signature prism display to tell time and for the very first time cased in a round-shaped case composed of 43 components. Owned by Cage Holding since 2012 and with their workshops in Neuchâtel, MCT partnered with Russian retailer Rich Time —who specializes on selling watches from most of the independent watch brands— last year, to create one of the most beautiful and unique looking watches they have released so far; we are talking about the MCT Sequential Two S200 Eagle Rich Time Limited Edition which has been produced in a very exclusive run of only 10 pieces.
The Case & Dial
For this limited edition of only 10 pieces, MCT has decided to create seven pieces in 18K white gold and 3 pieces in black DLC coated white gold with a case measuring 44.6 mm in diameter and 14.5 mm in thickness. The case is fitted with a sapphire ring around the case band, sapphire crystals with double anti-reflective coating and hollow lugs. The dial, just like on all other MCT watches released to date, features the same highly legible hours indicated by four modules each comprised of five triangular prisms and where the current hour is highlighted by an open 'window' in a 'C-shape' arc around the center of the dial. This 'C-shape' arc rotates sequentially 90° anticlockwise to highlight the new hour, while minutes are displayed via a central hand. The current hour is indicated by the open mouth of the 'C-shape' arc around the center of the dial, which also masks the non-current hours. The current hour displays sequentially in an anticlockwise direction.
Exclusively sold through Rich Time Group in Moscow —not to be confused with the U.K. watch retailer with the same name and based out of Liverpool—, this particular watch is not fitted with a number '12' as it has been replaced by the Russian flag rising in all glory. Additionally, the C-shaped arc made of aluminum features the Russian Imperial double-headed eagle on relief. This eagle at the center of the watch is simply stunning and a true work of art that showcases the watchmaking mastery that has been accomplished by MCT in only 10 years.
Since the number '12' has been replaced by the Russian flag on the module comprised of five prisms at 12 o'clock, the flag makes its grand entrance at noon and at midnight. The flag is perfectly lacquered in the exact pantone colors of the Russian flag and created with wavy stripes instead of straight ones in order to give the appearance of motion to the flag, just as if it was waving against the wind.
As with all other MCT watches, the attention to details is simply remarkable and worth capturing in our images.
The Movement
Through the display case back one can appreciate the automatic movement calibre MCT S2 on the Sequential Two S200. This beating heart was fully developed in-house by MCT and it features an 18K gold micro-rotor that allows for the movement to be relatively slim. The movement beats at a frequency 28,800 vph to provide a power reserve of 40 hours.
Composed of 507 parts and with 85 jewels, the movement is nicely decorated with 'Côtes de Genève', circular graining —perlage— and hand beveled edges. The movement is really beautiful and it features a 'v'-shaped bridge alluding to the shape of MCT's logo.
