Just like any other Richard Mille watch, the RM028 Americas Limited Edition Diver has superior craftsmanship. Richard Mille timepieces are very well known for their groundbreaking design and for the use of very unique metal alloys. The Richard Mille RM028 Americas Diver is a limited edition watch of only 30 pieces that is exclusively available in North and South America. It follows the design lines of the RM025 —Richard Mille's first diver's watch.
This watch is composed of a three-piece DLC titanium case, measuring 47 mm in width and 14.6 mm in thickness. The rotating bezel is formed by three layers that are connected with 22 eight-point-star-shaped screws which means that the bezel cannot be dislocated by impact. It is sturdy and very functional with white and red Arabic numerals that contrast very nicely with the dark finish of the case and the open-worked dial. One of the unique features of this bezel is its double-push button security mechanism that allows the user to rotate the bezel only if both the 30-minute and red arrow raised buttons are pressed simultaneously while rotating the bezel in a counterclockwise direction. The carbon fiber flange around the dial is red and the hands are in a combination of white and red creating the perfect balance.
The RM028 is truly a diver's watch as it complies with all the norms set by the ISO 6425 for diving watches. Waterproof to a depth rating of 300m/1000ft, this watch is the perfect companion for your next underwater adventure.
The dial is made of sapphire crystal with a thickness of 0.40 mm, an anti-glare treatment on both sides and a calendar display that is placed in a vertical aperture at 7 o'clock. Interestingly, the calendar disc is also made of sapphire crystal.
Just as required on any diver's watch complying with ISO 6425 norms, the watch is fitted with a screw-down over-sized crown that is very easy to unscrew with or without gloves. The crown is made of titanium and comes with a red rubber middle ring for protection.
The sapphire crystal on the watch has an anti-reflective coating on both sides that provides the perfect clarity for good readability inside and outside of the water. The rubber strap is soft and comfortable and it's fitted with a titanium tang buckle with the Richard Mille name on it.
The watch comes with a display case back allowing for a full view of the gorgeous skeletonized automatic calibre RMAS7 with adjustable rotor geometry. The calibre has a power-reserve of approximately 55 hours and according to Richard Mille, the exclusive design of the calibre allows the rewinding of the mainspring to adapt to the user’s activity level.
By adjusting the setting of the rib’s placement, the rotor’s inertia is modified to either speed up the winding process in the case of leisurely arm movements, or slow it down when sporting activities are performed. As a result, this invention allows the movement’s winding mechanism to be optimized and personalized to the owner’s lifestyle. No wonder why tennis player Rafa Nadal wears a Richard Mille watch.
The RM028 is very light and comfortable —as it weighs only 130 grams— and has a formidable wrist presence. On the downside, this watch is extremely thick and hard to fit under a dress shirt. Other than that, the RM028 is clearly one of the most iconic Richard Mille watches.
As you can see, the attention to detail on this watch is just superb. The bezel, the crown, the screws, the rubber strap and everything else on this RM028 exudes 'haute horlogerie'.
