Insider: Armin Strom Tourbillon Earth. Hands-on with a Sporty Rugged Looking Tourbillon with One of the Finest Skeletonizations Out There.
This relatively young manufacture, was founded in 1967 by Armin Strom in a small town named Burgdorf located northwest of Bern. The Armin Strom Tourbillon Earth ref. ST13-TE.90 is perhaps one of our three favorite watches from this manufacture. This particular tourbillon is not only beautiful but also very stealth looking thanks to its black PVD stainless steel case. A watch that seems rugged by its looks —specially when sported on its black rubber strap— and size —43.4 mm in diameter by 13 mm in thickness— but with a delicate and perfectionist craftsmanship.

The Armin Strom Manual Air is one of the four watches within the entry level Manual collection for this Swiss manufacture from Biel/Bienne. While the words 'entry level' might typically convey lower price point in the watch category; when it comes to independent watch manufactures like Armin Strom, we are talking more about a price point situated above the $10,000 USD mark. But hey, one thing we can assure you, is that you get what you are paying for, no more no less. With a very limited production of around 500 pieces a year —all of them of course handmade— Armin Strom has quickly gained momentum in less than 50 years. Established in 1967 in Altstadt area of Burgdorf, Armin Strom watches were initially only available through his shop and it wasn't until 1984 when Armin Strom officially entered the watch world by presenting at the Basel Watch and Jewellery Fair —Baselworld.

Insider: Armin Strom Skeleton Pure Earth. This 100-Piece Limited Edition is a Perfect Example of Skeletonization.
Since we know that not everyone has a chance to see the watches we review here in the metal —especially when it comes to some of the more exclusive independent brands with a limited distribution network and limited production—, we try to bring you live images under natural light so that those of you that don't have the opportunity to see the watches in person, can get a clear idea of what we are talking about, when we say that Armin Strom is a true master of skeletonization. As we've said it before, Armin Strom is a brand that excels in the art of skeletonization and the Skeleton Pure Earth ref. ST15-PE.40 we are reviewing here, is a perfect example of it. ST13-GE.90 we are reviewing here, happens to be one of our favorite watches from this manufacture, especially when fitted with a black rubber strap and tang buckle. This relatively young manufacture, was founded in 1967 by Armin Strom in the picturesque town of Burgdorf located northwest of Bern the capital of Switzerland. Armin Strom's first masterpiece was a gold pocket watch, with a hand-engraved dial in polished blue lapis lazuli. Armin's mature manual dexterity and incredible attention to detail soon made the him aware of where to specialize in his valuable items: the art of skeletonization. The Armin Strom Gravity Earth like all other Armin Strom timepieces in the Gravity collection, is fitted with a case measuring 43.4 mm in diameter and 13.4 mm thick. The Gravity collection is composed of four different watches that represent the four terrestrial elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

Insider: Armin Strom Gravity Date Fire. A Limited Edition of 100 Pieces of Pure Goodness.
The Armin Strom Gravity was the first watch from the Biel-based manufacture to feature an automatic winding mechanism with micro rotor. With this first series of automatic watches driven by the manufacture’s new AMR13 calibre, Armin Strom wanted to express the essence of a fundamental law of physics —that of gravity. Thus, the laws of gravity are used in an automatic watch to transform movements into a mode of indicating the time. However, the Armin Strom Gravity Date Fire ref. RG14-DF.90 is not necessarily powered by the same AMR13 calibre but by the ADD14 automatic calibre with a power reserve of 5 days. The Armin Strom Gravity Date —just like the Gravity collection— is designed to proudly display the micro rotor while also providing the wearer with date information as well as a useful night/day indicator. The visibility of this mechanism is made possible thanks to an innovative concept of transmission for the rotor, which remains smaller in size than the diameter of the going barrel.
Insider: Armin Strom One Week Skeleton. Mastering the Art of Skeletonization.
Armin Strom is a brand very well known for mastering the art of skeletonizing and the One Week Skeleton watch we are reviewing here, is one of the best examples from this relatively young manufacture founded in 1967 by Armin Strom in the picturesque town of Burgdorf located northwest of Bern the capital of Switzerland. News: Armin Strom Announces its New Armin Strom Sailing Team. Participating in the GC32 Sailing Series.
Armin Strom is very pleased to announce its new sailing team. The team will compete this season in the Great Cup 32 Sailing Series across Europe. The Armin Strom Sailing Team's new state-of-the-art GC32 catamaran appears to defy gravity as it soars airborne across the water. Flavio Marazzi, one of Switzerland's most successful sailing competitors, leads the team as skipper and helmsman. Like Armin Strom, the Sailing Team relies on the ingenuous, flawless design of its craft. The GC32 catamaran harnesses power from its innovative L-shaped lifting foils and a T-shaped rudder that elevate the foils so the craft speeds above the water.
Insider: Armin Strom Racing Manual. A Must Have if You are a Team Marussia Fan.
As you all know, Armin Strom has been heavily involved with Formula One racing for the last three years and this year they announced the continuation of their partnership for the fourth consecutive year as the official timing partner for the Anglo-Russian Formula 1 Team Marussia. The new Armin Strom Racing Manual ref. ST14-MR.90 that we were able to review at Baselworld 2014 last month, is just another perfect example of Armin Strom's superb craftsmanship and design.
The new Armin Strom Racing Manual features a titanium and black PVD stainless steel case measuring 43.4 mm in diameter with a thickness of 13 mm. The watch is definitely very racing looking, especially because of its solid construction and also because the dial ring appliques and movement bridges were founded directly from a monobloc of one of team Marussia's engines. It really doesn't get more racing inspired than this.
As you can appreciate in these pictures, the skeletonized dial is a complete work of art with its multilayer look. The dial features a black chapter ring with white Arabic numerals for the minutes, while the 12, 3 and 6 for the hours are applied numerals. As mentioned earlier the dial features appliques coming straight from team Marussia's engines. The dial also features a subsidiary seconds at 9 o'clock and the beautiful applique that resembles a pedal between 4 and 5 o'clock. Additionally, the colorful rubies on the movement provide a nice contrasting touch to the manly black and gray theme of the timepiece.
Just as with any other Armin Strom timepiece, the bezel features the prominent lip at 6 o'clock. If you are wondering why this unique feature is part of the design, the answer is very simple. Armin Strom watches can be personalized by adding an engraved monogram to that tiny protruding lip.
The Armin Strom Racing Manual is powered by the manual-wound Armin Strom in-house calibre AMW11-MR. This sophisticated calibre is composed of only 112 parts, fitted with 20 jewels, one single barrel, bridges made from metal coming from a Marussia Formula 1 monobloc engine and it provides an outstanding 5-day power reserve when fully wound. The calibre is fully visible via the display case back with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.
To make this watch even sportier, Armin Strom fitted it with a very supple black rubber strap with pin buckle in black PVD stainless steel and with a second interchangeable black alligator leather strap. A double-folding clasp is also available upon request for those watchlifestylers seeking a more elegant look on the strap. The interior side of the black rubber strap —that happens to be very comfortable— features a repetition pattern with the Armin Strom logo. Kudos to Armin Strom for supplying the Racing Manual with a rubber strap that is ideal for the warmer months or for those seeking to enjoy their watch while engaging in water activities —for your peace of mind this watch is waterproof to a depth of 50 meters.
On the wrist, the watch wears slightly bigger than its actual size —more like a 45 mm watch— and quite comfortably just as all other Armin Strom watches we have tried on or reviewed. If you are ready to make an impression next time you are attending the Formula One U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas and you want to have a watch that will look as good on the track as it would on the paddock, look no further. If you are a fan of Team Marussia this watch is a must have. This new Armin Strom Racing Manual is available in a limited edition of only 50 pieces.

Baselworld 2014: Armin Strom Tourbillon Gravity Earth. Live Pictures and Pricing.
A few months after the initial release of the Armin Strom Tourbillon Gravity Fire, the manufacture launched the remainder of the Armin Strom Tourbillon Gravity collection this past week at Baselworld 2014. The Armin Strom Tourbillon Gravity reveals on the dial side the two opposites which animate every watch movement: winding mechanism and regulation. While the ingenious tourbillon mechanism ensures the most accurate possible regulation by diminishing the effects of gravity, the microrotor integrated in the calibre harnesses this same power to supply energy to the gear train. The hands display the time from a decentred axis, exploiting both the positive and negative impacts of the Earth’s gravitation. Together with the Fire —18K rose gold— element available since December 2013, the Armin Strom Tourbillon Gravity is now also available in the Water —stainless steel—, Air —titanium— and Earth —stainless steel PVD black— versions, with decorations based on the theme of the elements, which enhance calibre ATM13.
The new Armin Strom Tourbillon Gravity Earth features a PVD stainless steel case measuring 43.4 mm in diameter and 13 mm in thickness. The watch features a black dial ring with founded appliques and is delivered on a black alligator hornback strap and an additional interchangeable rubber strap. This exceptional timepiece is powered by the Armin Strom automatic Calibre ATM13 composed of 197 parts, 26 jewels, a dial side microrotor and single going barrel and which provides a power reserve of an outstanding 110 hours —almost five days— when fully wound. The calibre is fully visible via the skeletonized dial and the display case back.
Sticker Price $89,900 USD. For more info on Armin Strom click here.
