Insider: Zenith Defy Inventor. Equipped with a Revolutionary Disruptive Oscillator.

Zenith released its ‘Zenith Oscillator’ system in 2017 and the new Zenith Defy Inventor is their latest watch equipped with this technology. Beating at the extremely high frequency of 18 Hz or 129,600 vph —compared to the usual 4 Hz or 28,800 vph— and endowed with a comfortable two-day autonomy, the Defy Inventor owes its exceptional properties to its disruptive technology. The ‘Zenith Oscillator’ is a single-piece oscillator developed and patented by Zenith that maximizes chronometric precision, reliability and stability. This type of oscillator was conceived to replace the traditional spring balance used for more than three centuries.

Things to Know About the Watch

The new Zenith Defy Inventor features a titanium case measuring 44 mm in diameter and with a very special textured bezel made of Aeronith. This revolutionary material is the lightest aluminium composite in the world and it was developed using an exclusive high-tech process only available to LVMH. Three times lighter than titanium and made of open-pore aluminium foam stiffened with a polymer, Aeronith is durable but light as a feather.

Fitted with a blue anodized openworked dial that allows for the oscillator to be in full view, the Defy Inventor is a revolutionary timepiece that is ultra modern and very sporty. Very Hublot looking to be quite frank.

The Movement

The Zenith Defy Inventor is powered by the impressive Zenith Calibre 9100. This automatic movement composed of 148 parts is incredibly reliable given its ultra-thin oscillator —0.5 mm thick— that replaces the 30 or so components of a standard regulating organ. This new oscillating system eliminates contact, friction, wear and stability. The oscillator is made of monocrystalline silicon and therefore is insensitive to temperature and magnetic fields. Beating at an incredible frequency of 129,600 vph, the movement provides a power reserve of 50 hours when fully wound and the gorgeous blue anodized oscillating weight with a star is visible via the display case back.

On the Wrist & Price

On the wrist, the new Zenith Defy Inventor wears true to its size and extremely light due to its titanium and Aeronith construction. A great looking watch that looks more like an Hublot than it does like a Zenith. Sporty, revolutionary and not bad at all for the price. A lot of watch for the money with the most advanced technology when it comes to mechanical horology. The Defy Inventor is delivered on a black rubber strap with blue alligator leather coating and a titanium double folding clasp.
