Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor Two-Tone ref. 116621 Chocolate Dial. Hands-on with a Delicious Piece of Rolex Goodness.

As we approach Baselworld 2017 happening in less than a week, we bring you our hands-on review of one of the Rolex watches that didn't get much attention after its release at Baselworld 2016. The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor ref. 116621 with chocolate dial is the first watch in the Yacht-Master family to ever feature Everose Rolesor —Rolex's two-tone combination of 904L steel and 18K Everose gold. This new model maintains all design elements of the Yacht-Master with large hour markers and broad hands with a stunning combination of gold coveted for its luster and nobility and stainless steel to reinforces strength and reliability. Together, they harmoniously combine the best of their properties in a great looking watch worthy of a man's or a woman's wrist. A true Rolex signature, Rolesor has been part of theRolex models since the early 1930s and was trademarked as a name in 1933.

The Dial

Fitted with a gorgeous chocolate colored dial with sunburst finish, the dial is the distinctive face of a Rolex watch characterized by applied round hour markers in 18K gold and in this case with the 'Yacht-Master' writing in red. The chocolate dial on the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor Two-Tone ref. 116621 is a true chameleon that varies in hues depending on the lighting conditions. Elegant, warm and sophisticated are some of the words that come to mind when admiring this dial fully manufactured by Rolex.

The Bezel

One of the most distinctive elements in the design of the Rolex Yacht-Master is the bidirectional bezel with raised highly polished numbers and markers. Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful Rolex bezels and the sand-blasted finish on it provides the perfect backdrop for the highly polished graduations to stand out even more.

The Case, Bracelet & Crown

The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor ref. 116621 is fitted with a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter and made of 904L stainless steel. Fitted with an Oyster bracelet in stainless steel with polished center links in Everose gold —Rolex's proprietary alloy created at their foundry— the look of this watch is very contemporary and elegant at the same time with warm tones that match the chocolate dial flawlessly. The bracelet is equipped with an Oysterlock clasp to prevent accidental opening and with the Easylink system that allows the wearer to extend the last link on the bracelet by 5 mm for extra comfort. The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor ref. 116621 is also equipped with a triplock screw-down crown easily identifiable by the three dots under the Rolex coronet just like that on the GMT Master II and the Submariner to name a few.

The Movement

The Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor ref. 116621 is powered by the Rolex automatic in-house calibre 3135, the same movement powering the Submariner, the Deepsea and the Sea-Dweller 4000. This movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex is one of the most robust and accurate calibres out there and provides a power reserve of 48 hours when fully wound. The calibre 3135 is fitted with a Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and like all other Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3135 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute —COSC— tests. The watch is water resistant to 100 meters.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor Two-Tone ref. 116621 looks and wears slightly smaller than its actual size and more like a 39 mm watch. For sure the watch wears much smaller than the rest of the Rolex sports models with a 40 mm case. As far as looks, this is a great looking watch on both men and women and one of our favorite two-tone watches out there and by far much classier looking than a two-tone Submariner or two-tone GMT Master II. Now, after savoring this piece of chocolate, let's just wait and see what Rolex will unveil next week at Baselworld 2017 from where we will be reporting live.
