SIHH 2019: Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry PAM 982. Live Pictures & Pricing.
As mentioned during our review of the new Panerai Submersible Luna Rossa, this year at the SIHH 2019, Panerai focused their novelties around their Submersible line and released a dozen different Submersible timepieces. The new Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition PAM 982 is one of our favorites and the result of a partnership with Guillaume Néry the free-diving champion. When we first heard that Panerai was partnering with him, we got really excited as we are big fans of Néry and his diving videos on Youtube are simply epic. We first discovered Guillaume Néry like 6 years ago when he was still an ambassador for Ball Watches —we really couldn’t care less for the watches— and he did a video base jumping into Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas. Here’s the video for your viewing pleasure. By the way, the song on it it’s pretty awesome as well.
Alright, after that brief parenthesis, let’s get back to the new watch. The new Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition should not be confused with the Special Edition PAM983 released under the same name but that features a DLC coated titanium case with an incredible textured black and blue dial reminiscent of the waters of Moorea —more on that watch on a separate feature.
Water resistant to a depth of 300 meters with a robust 47 mm brushed titanium case and fitted with a unidirectional glossy blue ceramic bezel, the new Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry PAM 982 sports a grainy light grey dial —finished to resemble the skin of a shark— with 12-hour chronograph and blue hands. Delivered on a navy blue rubber strap the watch is perfectly suited for all types of water activities including free-diving like Guillaume Néry. The chronograph features a flyback function and the watch is delivered on the new dark blue recycled plastic cases that were designed for the Submersible line.
A diving watch in true essence, the Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry features chronograph pushers on its left caseband and crown protecting device on the right side. The chrono pushers are of the scrrewed-in type and while fully protected with gaskets, the chronograph should never be activated under water.
The Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry PAM982 is powered by the in-house Panerai double-barrel calibre P.9100. This automatic movement with two spring barrels is capable of providing a power reserve of 3 full days. The movement is protected by a titanium solid case back with a special engraving celebrating Guillaume Néry’s 126-meter free-diving record —only 2 meters away from the world record.
The watch is delivered on a blue rubber strap equipped with a brushed titanium pin buckle. Without a doubt one of our favorite three watches released by Panerai at the SIHH 2019.
