Introducing: Panerai Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628. The 47 mm 3-Day Watch Gets Better.

Panerai introduces the new Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628, a striking watch that combines the brand's rich history with cutting-edge innovation. With its substantial size at 47 mm and a classic manual wound movement, this timepiece pays homage to Panerai's storied past while embracing modern precision. From the bold case size to the timeless calf leather strap, every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect the brand’s commitment to functional, distinctive design.

Honoring its historical legacy, the new Luminor Tre Giorni—three days in Italian—PAM01628 features a robust 47mm case, inspired by the watches worn by Italian commandos during their daring underwater operations. The larger diameter enhances readability, a key aspect of a true tool watch. The case is treated with a unique patina finish, carefully applied by skilled artisans using hand-crafted techniques, giving it a matte, slightly worn appearance that evokes the natural aging of vintage Panerai models.

In the 1940s, Panerai developed the innovative sandwich dial structure to ensure optimal legibility, even in near-total darkness. The dial was made up of three layers: the upper plate was drilled, and the lower plate was coated with a luminous material. These plates were then joined by a transparent Plexiglas disc. The resulting brightness was so intense that, during nighttime operations, underwater commandos would cover the watch with mud or seaweed to avoid detection. The sandwich design has since evolved into a simpler two-layer structure, with the lower plate now filled with SuperLumiNova. Somewhat similar to the PAM0372 but with a much more striking dial with a slight fumé effect, the new PAM01628 feels more vintage than its predecessors.

Inspired by its vintage history, the new Panerai Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 is powered by the manual wound in-house calibre P.3000. This manual wound movement with a three-day power reserve is made possible by its dual mainspring barrels. The movement is composed of 161 parts including 21 jewels, a Glucydur balance, Incabloc Parechoc anti-shock device, and beats at a frequency of 21,600 vph.

Known for its durability and dependability, this manual winding mechanism offers users a more tactile, hands-on experience. Drawing inspiration from Panerai’s 1960s-era movements, the design, and construction of the P.3000 calibre faithfully reflect the functional and aesthetic qualities of those vintage models.

The finishing is deliberately minimal and utilitarian, mirroring the practical needs of the military divers who originally relied on these rugged timepieces but still with chamfering on the main three plates.

The Panerai Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 is delivered on a dark brown calf strap with beige contrast stitching and with trapezoidal brushed steel pin buckle. The watch is delivered with an additional black rubber strap.
