MCT Sequential Two S220 Bronze. Hands-on with the Most Impressive Bronze Watch Out There.
Without a doubt, the MCT Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps is the most impressive bronze watch out there considering how complicated this watch is from an horological standpoint but also as far as looks. With the round case of the Sequential Two line, the new 10-piece limited edition MCT Sequential Two S220 Bronze features a generous and robust case in bronze.
The Case
With a generous case measuring 44.6 mm in diameter and 14.5 mm in thickness, the new MCT Sequential Two S220 Bronze released at the SIHH 2017 features one of the nicest and most beautiful patinated bronze cases in the market. After the release of the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Bronzo PAM 382 in 2011 —the first watch with a case made of bronze— that set a trend that many watch manufacturers have now followed, only a few had mastered the art of bronze and MCT Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps is one of them.
With their signature sapphire ring around the case band, sapphire crystals with double anti-reflective coating and hollow lugs, the case of the new Sequential Two S220 Bronze is simply out of this world. But what makes this bronze watch even more interesting is that the bronze case gives this modern 'haute horlogerie' complication a vintage look and feel never seen before on any of the independent 'haute horlogerie' brands.
The Dial
The dial, just like on all other MCT watches released to date, features the same highly legible hours indicated by four modules each comprised of five triangular prisms and where the current hour is highlighted by an open 'window' in a 'C-shape' arc around the center of the dial. This time the dial features a black and ecru combination very similar in hue to that on the Louis Vuitton Monogram Maccasar. As the 'C-shape' arc rotates sequentially 90° anticlockwise to highlight the new hour, the minutes are displayed via a central hand. The current hour is indicated by the open mouth of the 'C-shape' arc around the center of the dial, which also masks the non-current hours. The current hour displays sequentially in an anticlockwise direction. The dial is a perfect match to the patinated bronze case and the rugged brown strap.
The Strap
Taking the vintage look and feel a step further, the MCT Sequential Two S220 Bronze is fitted with a patinated calfskin strap endowed with a perfect blend of modernity and timeless charm. The strap is very rugged looking and in a hue of brown that enhances the ecru numerals on the prisms. The strap is equipped with a satin-brushed stainless steel deployant buckle with MCT crest.
The Movement
Composed of 654 parts and with 85 jewels, the movement is nicely decorated with 'Côtes de Genève', circular graining —perlage— and hand beveled edges. The movement features a 'v'-shaped bridge alluding to the shape of MCT's crest. This automatic movement calibre MCT S2.0 on the Sequential Two S200 was fully developed in-house by MCT and it features an 18K gold micro-rotor. The movement beats at a frequency 18,000 vph to provide a power reserve of 50 hours. All watches will be delivered to clients with black DLC coated bridges and mainplate —the picture below is of one of the prototypes without the final finish.
On the Wrist & Pricing
The new MCT Sequential Two S220 Bronze wears true to its size and with amazing wrist presence. If you like bronze watches and you have the money to play, it really doesn't get any better out there. To us, this is the most impressive bronze watch in the market and one of the coolest 'haute horlogerie' creations out there. A 10-piece limited edition that will sell out very quickly and even better when paired with a Louis Vuitton Monogram Macassar bag.
