Introducing: Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Geographic
Up until now, the JLC Polaris collection included a three-hand automatic model, a Memovox alarm reference, a chronograph, and a Perpetual Calendar. Today, La Grande Maison is expanding the Polaris collection with a new dual-time complication. With its distinctive style, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Geographic captures Jaeger-LeCoultre’s spirit of elegance in contemporary sporting style, allowing travelers to roam the world, simultaneously reading the time in two time zones.
Cased in a generous 42 mm case in stainless steel —11.54 mm in thickness—, the Polaris Geographic offers a dual time display thanks to its highly legible world time disc. The Polaris case is distinguished by off-centered crowns, taut lines, glass-box crystal, narrow bezel, and a mix of brushed and polished surfaces.
In an aperture at 6 o’clock, the desired city is selected by a single crown located at 10 o’clock, enabling automatic time adjustment on the small second time-zone dial at 6 o'clock. In a double gradation from darkest to lightest, the ocean-grey —gray blue— dial exudes depth, enhanced by a triple finish of opaline, grainy and sunrayed. The displays are arranged in a pleasingly asymmetric layout, with the second time zone in a sub-dial at 6 o’clock and the power reserve indicator in the upper left sector of the dial.
With an evocative air of mystery, the ocean-grey lacquered dial is applied in a double gradient finish that adds visual depth and dynamism. Composed of almost 40 steps including 35 layers of lacquer, the process of achieving this color is very complex. Enhancing legibility, orange accents draw the eye to key information points, contrasting with the luminescent coating on the indexes, numerals, and hands.
This hypnotic decor highlights every attribute of the timepiece: hands, luminescent numerals and hour-markers, orange details. Offered with a duo of interchangeable straps in black rubber and blue-grey fabric, the straps are secured by a double folding buckle in stainless steel.
Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire display case back that protects the in-house Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 939. This automatic movement composed of 282 parts and 34 jewels, features a 2nd time zone selected on the 24-city disc, seconds hand, 24-hour display with day and night indicator, and a power reserve gauge type indicator.
The watch is water resistant to 100 meters and the movement provides a power reserve of 70 hours when fully wound with a single mainspring barrel.
