Insider: Zenith Elite Chronograph Classic Blue. Hands-on with a Very Elegant Vintage Looking Timepiece.

Faithful to the Zenith legacy and powered by the new automatic high-frequency calibre El Primero 4069, the new Zenith Elite Chronograph Classic Blue ref. 03.2272.4069/51.C700 is the latest addition to the entry-level Elite collection from Zenith. The Elite Chronograph Classic was originally launched at Baselworld 2015 with a silver-toned sunray pattern dial and now this stunning blue sunray dial made its appearance earlier this year. After perusing both the silver dial reference and this one, the latter is definitely the one we would consider purchasing.

The Case, Pushers & Dial

The elegant stainless steel case measuring 42 x 11.80 mm, features a highly polished bezel with satin brushed finish on the caseband and lugs. The lugs in particular are very pronounced and nicely curved. Its lines are very clean and its timeless design is rounded out by a domed sapphire crystal. The watch is also available in 18K rose gold in a limited edition of 150 pieces. The new Zenith El Primero Chronograph Classic Blue is fueled by very strong Zenith DNA in its purest and most classic form. The striking blue sunray dial is very clean and well-balanced but it also comes with an interesting surprise. What appear to be applied hour markers at first glance, upon further inspection are actually engraved markers straight on the surface of the dial and filled with rhodium. The dial features running seconds at 9 and a 30-minute chrono register at 3 o'clock.

The elegant thin case, features rectangular curved chrono pushers that wrap around the case band as well as a nice and thin Zenith star marked crown.

The Movement

This new Zenith Elite Chronograph Classic Blue just like its predecessor the silver dial one, is powered by the new El Primero 4069 automatic calibre composed of 254 parts, 31 jewels and which provides a power reserve of 50 hours when fully wound while beating at a frequency of 36,000 vph. This movement also features a column-wheel chronograph mechanism. As it is the norm with Zenith, the calibre is beautifully finished and fully visible via the display case back.

On the Wrist & Pricing

The elegant and classic look of the new Zenith El Primero Chronograph Classic Blue, is further enhanced by a beautiful dark blue alligator straps with rubber lining and equipped with a stainless steel triple folding clasp. On the wrist, the watch wears slightly smaller than its actual size —perhaps a millimeter smaller— and with a very classic and elegant wrist presence. However, one thing to keep in mind, is that this watch is so elegant that it might not be an option if you are thinking of pairing it with casual clothes.
