Insider: Patek Philippe Chronograph ref. 5170G-010. A Chronograph with Breguet Numerals Like No Other.
The Patek Philippe Chronograph ref. 5170 in white gold is one of the most iconic and classic dressy chronograph timepieces out there. This year, Patek Philippe decided to give this watch a facelift and added a new ebony black opaline dial with white gold applied Breguet numerals and white minute track. Up until now, the Patek Philippe ref. 5170G was only available with silvery dial with pulsometer —graduation pour 15 pulsations. This new 517-G-010 is simply stunning and extremely comfortable with its 18K white gold case measuring short of 40 mm at 39.4 mm in diameter. Powered by the manual wound calibre CH 29-535 PS a column-wheel chronograph with center chronograph hand and 30-minute chrono register at 3 o'clock, this watch is pure perfection. Below you will find a few pictures of the previous iteration of this chronograph, the Patek Philippe ref. 5170G-001.
The new Patek Philippe ref. 5170G-010 is simply gorgeous no matter at what angle you look at it. Whether you look at it directly straight or at a slight angle, the Breguet numerals will captivate you as only a Patek with these type of numerals can do it.
The ebony black opaline dial comes with exquisite contrast provided by the white fonts, along with the white central chrono seconds hand and the Breguet numerals. In our book, this dial is simply perfectly balanced and truly exceptional. The dial features running seconds at 9 o'clock and 30-minute chrono register at 3 o'clock. The dial is very glossy and beautifully finished with stepped down registers and leaf shaped hands.
The highly polished case along with its oval shaped chrono pushers with their satin brushed finish and highly polished tops are just pure treat for the eyes. Activating the chrono is like pushing against a soft buttery surface.
Fitted with a display case back, one can appreciate the exceptionally finished calibre CH 29-535 PS. The movement with a diameter of 29.6 mm and a height of only 5.35 mm features 33 jewels, 11 bridges and is composed of 269 parts. The movement provides a power reserve of 65 hours when fully wound, while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph.
Equipped with a glossy black alligator strap with square scales and fold-over clasp, the Patek Phillipe ref. 5170G-010 wears extremely comfortable. If you like chronographs but you are dressy type of guy, this is the perfect watch for you. Not only this is a Patek but it is also an in-house true chronograph with one of the most beautiful dials we've seen in a long time.
