Insider: Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon Green. One of the Most Unique Carbon Cases.

Today, we bring you these live pictures under natural light of the Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon Green, a sporty and refreshing take on the Oktopus dive watch. Featuring champagne gold detailing, it revitalizes the Linde Werdelin collection of revolutionary diving timepieces for an active lifestyle. A numbered limited series of just 88 pieces has been individually crafted using 3DTP —Three-Dimensional Thin Ply—, the first ever carbon technology conceived for Swiss watchmaking, engineered to sculpt the iconic and angular Oktopus case by layering thin layers of carbon into a mold to give the finished product it's ultra-unique appearance with those horizontal lines, just like the rings inside a tree trunk. While the finish is somewhat similar to that of the new Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 CarboTech reviewed here, the layering on this particular case is just very unique and quite different. Its case, measuring 44 mm in diameter by 46 mm in length and 15 mm in thickness is quite light but not as much as you one would imagine considering the carbon used for the case —total weight 97.3 grams.

Based on a Dubois Dépraz movement customized by Linde Werdelin, the double date complication that sits at 12 o’clock on the dial is highly skeletonized and treated with TIN, to give the date wheels a green shine that further accentuates the green details throughout the timepiece. The dial, is a five layer skeletonized semi-matte black dial with circular satin and  Côtes de Genève finish on the mainplate with large Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 printed in green luminescent material with cool grey hands in titanium.

The case back, like the crown and screws on the bezel, are made of titanium with TIN and microbillé treatment and engraved with an octopus motif. The watch is limited to 88 pieces and is powered by the Linde Werdelin modified Dubois Dépraz caliber 14580 with 23 jewels that beats at a frequency of 28,800vph to provide a power reserve of 44 hours. The watch is water resistant to a depth of 300 meters.

Fitted with a bespoke top-grade lime green natural rubber strap, the watch is as marine and sporty as it gets. The strap is fitted with a pin buckle in titanium matching the color of the case back and crown.

On the wrist, the watch wears true to its size and very comfortably. If you are looking for a carbon case watch with one of the most unique finishes after any of the Audemars Piguet forged carbon cased watches or the new Panerai CarboTech, then look no further. While the new Linde Werdelin Oktopus Double Date Carbon Green is a great looking watch, the fact that it lacks of an in-house movement at such sticker price makes it slightly less desirable than other watches in a relatively comparable price range.

Now, the question is, would you rather have this watch or the new Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 CarboTech 3 Days with an in-house movement and slightly higher priced? The answer is up to you, but if you feel like sharing, just go ahead and add your answer to the comments area.

Sticker Price CHF 14,000 Ex VAT. For more info on Linde Werdelin click here.
