Insider: Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° Technique in Platinum. Another Fascinating Invention Full of Intricate Details.

The exceptional Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° Technique in platinum —also available in red gold or white gold— is another one of the inventions from this manufacture. This timepiece measuring 47.50mm in diameter full of intricate details and a perfect example of ultra 'haute horlogerie' is not only worthy of a detailed review, but also worthy of admiration. This is a watch where the eye is drawn from one gear to the next, enabling careful observation of each separate element.

The skeletonized dial features a sapphire crystal disc around the perimeter of the case with applied markers and a 12'oclock numeral marker. The tridimensional depth of the mechanism and the dial are a real treat for the eyes. The dial also features a Double Tourbillon 30° mechanism with sapphire crystal 4-minute engraved indicator for the outer tourbillon at 6, a 120-hour power reserve indicator at 3, a small seconds register at 9 o'clock and a black finished 22K gold cover for the four coaxial barrels that is engraved with "Greubel Forsey Four Coaxial Barrels" in bas relief text. Every single component on the front has been perfectly crafted with the utmost care and with remarkable attention to detail.

The fascinating movement inside this watch is the manual-wound calibre Greubel Forsey GF02s with with patented tourbillon. The movement on the back is as fascinating as on the front. The movement is composed of 385 parts, two tourbillon cages with 132 parts, four coaxial series fast rotating barrels, 43 olived-domed jewels in gold chatons, nickel silver main plates and bridges frosted with polished beveling and nickel-palladium treatment, an inner tourbillon positioned at an angle of 30° that rotates once every minute and an outer tourbillon that rotates once every four minutes. When fully wound, this calibre provides a power reserve of 120 hours —5 days— while beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph.

Just as if the dial and the movement weren't enough treat for the eyes, Greubel Forsey decided to go the extra mile and included two intricately hand engraved platinum plates screwed to the case band on both sides bearing the now usual text in French that describes the values and attributes of this horological masterpiece: 'Savoir-Faire', 'Inventeurs Horlogers', 'Créativité', 'Technicité', 'Univers Original', 'Bienfacture d'Exception', 'Oeuvre Unique', 'Noblesse Esthétique', 'Inventeurs Horlogers', 'Créativité' and 'Technicité'. Additionally, the tridimensional variable geometry-shaped lugs are screwed to the case and the perfectly sized crown features an engraved and black lacquered Greubel Forsey logo. It really doesn't get more intricate than this when it comes to their attention to details.

To round out the amazing wrist presence and look of this masterpiece of horology, this watch is fitted with a very elegant and nicely hand-sewn black alligator strap. The strap is fitted with a comfortable and very easy to use deployant double-folding clasp in platinum with hand engravings of the Greubel Forsey logo on the front and the words "Inventeurs, Horlogers" on its push buttons,

If you want to own one of the most fascinating complications out there and a watch that very few will have the pleasure of owning, then this Greubel Forsey is the way to go. If you are accustomed to the best and that is your rule of thumb, this Greubel Forsey will for sure put a smile on your face every time you catch yourself contemplating it for extended periods of time.
