Insider: Girard-Perregaux Traveller WW.TC Titanium DLC Black. Hands-on Review of a True Road Warrior Companion.
Released a little bit over a month ago, today we bring you our hands-on review of the latest iteration of the iconic Girard-Perregaux Traveller WW.TC, we are talking about the new Girard-Perregaux Traveller WW.TC Titanium DLC with its intense black look. This new watch offers a combination of high performance and understated wrist presence that meet in a very sporty, yet elegant timepiece. Fitted with a feather light —weighing only 104 grams— DLC treated titanium case measuring 44 mm in diameter this new reference is pure masculinity. Featuring two of the most useful horological complications —a chronograph and a world timer— the new Girard-Perregaux Traveller WW.TC Titanium DLC ref. 49700-21-631-BB6C is not only very practical but a perfect companion for those road warriors changing time zones frequently.
Fitted with a matte black dial with a tridimensional representation of the latitudes and longitudes covering the Earth on the center, the dial is easy to read thanks to the contrasting white markers and numbers on the running seconds and the chronograph registers. Both the hands and the hour-markers feature a luminescent coating to improve their visibility during day and night. Designed to capture the shortest snatches of time, the chronograph is equipped with a bright red central seconds hand, with its minutes and hours marked by two separate counters at 9 and 6 o'clock, while the running seconds register is located at 3 o'clock right below the date aperture. Practical and easy to read, the world time function is displayed on the perimeter of the dial thanks to a first ring indicating both the hours and the periods of day and night in black and white, while the second outer ring features 24 time zones/cities.
To improve readability even in the brightest conditions, the watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.
The new Girard-Perregaux Traveller WW.TC Titanium DLC just like its other Girard-Perregaux siblings featuring a world timer function is fitted with a world timer mechanism that is fully controlled and operable via the winding crown. The watch features rectangular chrono pushers that are easy to use and that offer low resistance when pressed.
The beating heart inside this new watch is the Girard-Perregaux automatic calibre GP03300 movement fully developed, produced and assembled in-house. This calibre is composed of 476 different parts, 63 jewels and is equipped with a 46 hour power reserve, while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph. The calibre is fully visible via the display case back and nicely decorated —nothing too fancy— as it is the norm when it comes to this brand. As Mies van der Rohe used to say, "less is more". The watch is water resistant to a 100 meters.
On the wrist, the watch wears slightly smaller than its actual size but very comfortably. Equipped with a black rubberized alligator strap with ceramic deployant buckle with PVD titanium blades, the watch feels extremely sporty but somewhat elegant at the same time. Next time you are traveling the world during one of your watch adventures, make sure you are equipped with one of the best world timers in the market that is not only very functional but also quite exceptional looking.
