Insider: Breguet Hora Mundi ref. 5727. Hands-on with the New Version of this World Timer.
The new Breguet Classique Hora Mundi ref. 5727 ref. 5727BB/12/9ZU in 18K white gold is the perfect successor to the previous iteration of the Hora Mundi ref. 5717 —only available in rose gold or platinum. The Breguet Classique Hora Mundi ref. 5727 is a very easy to use world timer in terms of functionality and one of our all time favorites when it comes to classical design. Still fitted with a robust 43mm case like its predecessor, the new Hora Mundi ref. 5727 maintains all the Breguet design cues including the delicately fluted caseband and the welded lugs with screw bars. While its 18K gold silvered dial is less visually striking than that of its predecessor, this new model takes features a hand-guilloché dial with no less than five motifs. You can see our feature about its predecessor ref. 5717 here.
This time, instead of featuring a highly elaborated engraving representing land masses of the Americas, the European and African continents, or Asia and Oceania with a total of six different references, the dial features a chapter ring with Arabic numerals, Breguet secret signatures between 11 and 1 o'clock, blued open-tipped hands, day night indicator at 3 o'clock and the usual apertures at 12 and 6 o'clock in order to check the time across 24 different cites. While the center of the dial features 'Clous de Paris', the subdial at 3 o'clock —that serves as a day/night indicator— is recessed and features two very intricate types of guilloché. While the previous iteration of the Hora Mundi ref. 5717 featured at moon phase indicator at 3 o'clock, we feel that the day/night indicator on the new Hora Mundi ref. 5727 is a more useful complication when it comes to world timers.
Still powered by the automatic Breguet calibre 77F0 composed of the base Calibre 777 with an additional plate, this movement features 39 jewels, inverted in-line Swiss lever escapement with silicon pallets and balance-spring also in silicon. The movement provides a power reserve of 55 hours when fully wound while beating at a frequency of 4hz —28,800 vph.
The watch is sold with a matte dark brown alligator leather strap. On the wrist, the watch wears slightly smaller than its actual size if you have a 7.25" wrist. The wrist presence is definitely very elegant make this timepiece one that is better when paired with a dressier attire. The new Breguet Hora Mundi ref. 5727 is also available in 18K rose gold as ref. 5727BR/12/9ZU.
