Insider: HYT SOONOW Mexico 'Día de los Muertos' Edition. A 5-Piece Limited Edition with Green and Red Like the Mexican Flag.
First released back in June of 2019, the HYT SOONOW offers an intriguing and captivating presentation of time’s flow is a constant reminder that every second counts. The HYT SOONOW showcases this dynamic view of the now as a mobile pivotal point between the path traveled so far, and what could potentially lie ahead. Immediacy becomes an open door. The past empowers the present; then they build the future together. Available in two editions —one in black DLC stainless steel with green fluid and the other in satin-brushed stainless steel with blue fluid— up until then, the new SOONOW Mexico ‘Día de los Muertos’ Edition brings the green and red colors of the Mexican flag into the equation.
As Mexico prepares to celebrate the human cycle on the Day of the Dead this November 1st and 2nd, the five-piece limited edition will premiere at three exhibitions in Mexico including the EMWA Fest, Berger Fest and the SIAR 2019 from where we will be reporting live as we do every year. Despite the official launch will take place next week, we already have these live images for you captured during our visit to HYT Manufacture last week in Neuchâtel.
Things to Know About the Watch
These new watch winks at the tradition of creating multi-colored sugar skulls, and at the Mexican flag, presenting their own visual anthem to time’s passage in red, green and white. The spectacular Mexican festival is coming soon; this SOONOW limited edition is here right now. But now doesn’t last forever —blink and you could miss it.
Its dial, a meticulous multi-dimensional depiction of the human skull inspired by Aztec artifacts is contoured by the fluidic capillary. No less than 313 18K yellow gold pins make up the skull on this new version.. For the whole dial, close to 1,000 tiny holes were carefully perforated and then 313 set by a gem-setter making sure that the exact center of each word from six to twelve would meet a precisely set pin in order to facilitate on-the-dot timing accuracy. The skull-shaped capillary, with its handcrafted bends and angles, represents an endless, rewarding quest for technical innovation.
Hourly milestones appear to float above its outline. The skull’s facial expressions give their all to keep life’s transience front of mind. A pupil mirroring the power reserve level peers out from a disc sitting behind one eye socket. The other eye focuses on the passing of the watch’s briefest recorded unit, completing a full rotation in 60 seconds. Here the words “SOON” and “NOW” remind us that time is precious in a way that no iris could.
The Movement
Turning the watch over allows for full view of the exclusive manual wound HYT calibre 101 with 35 jewels that provides a power reserve of 65 hours when fully wound. The bridges on the movement are hand-bevelled and adorned with 'Côtes de Genève', the bellows are rhodium-plated as well as the bridges and main plates The sapphire crystal on the case back shows ‘ONE OF FIVE’ in green, white and red and the watch is water resistant to 100 meters.
On the Wrist & Price
Much like the HYT H0 cased in a pebble-shaped case, the HYT SOONOW Mexico 'Día de los Muertos' Edition wears true to its size and slightly tall on the wrist. The color combination on the watch is very nice and in our opinion much nicer than the two previously released SOONOW watches. A stunning piece extremely exclusive in a 5-piece limited edition. The watch will be exclusively sold through Mexican Authorized Dealers.
