Experience: H. Upmann Robusto Edicion Limitada 2012 and Rolex Datejust ref. 116200 with Roulette Date Wheel.
While the actual number of Rolex Datejusts ref. 116200 fitted with a roulette date wheel still remains unconfirmed by Rolex, we all know that there aren't too many out there. Whether your watch came with a roulette wheel or not, it is pure luck just like the gambling game itself. This is a special feature that for sure makes these watches more desirable if that's something you really crave. Having a roulette date wheel is also a very special thing for those that rotate watches frequently without keeping them in a winder. As one picks up the watch fitted with the roulette date wheel, one wishes it had stopped on an odd number to enjoy its bright red font. As the calendar wheel moves between even numbers in black and odd numbers in red, the day you hit that red '7', you know its time to enjoy a cigar fitted with a matching bright red ring, just like the H. Upmann Edición Limitada 2012 we have here.
H. Upmann cigars just like all other Habanos from Cuba are full of history. H. Upmann cigars take their name from the German banker named Herman Upmann who loved Cuban cigars so much that decided to move to Havana in 1844 to work as a banker and also became a cigar maker. His bank closed in the early 1920s but his cigars live on as a fine example of an elegant light to medium-flavoured Habano. The H. Upmann Robusto Edición Limitada 2012 is the perfect cigar to pair with a 'Cuba Libre' as you welcome the weekend on a Friday afternoon.
The H. Upmann Robusto Edición Limitada 2012 is a very special cigar within the H. Upmann lineup as the Robusto shape and size is not a regular production 'vitola' but indeed a special production one. For 2012, H. Upmann is one of the three Cuban Habanos S.A. brand along with Montecristo and Partagas that featured a limited edition, and just like all other 'Edición Limitada' cigars, these are rolled with a careful selection of leaves —wrapper, filler and binder— that have been aged for at least 2 years.
This exceptional cigar made with leaves from the renowned region of 'Vuelta Abajo' is slightly shorter and wider than the H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1. While the Connoisseur No. 1 measures 5" long with a 48 ring gauge, the Robusto Edición Limitada 2012 is slightly shorter measuring 4.88" in length and wider with a 50 ring gauge. This delicious cigar presents heavy peppery and woody notes with a very rich flavor. The wrapper is very dark in color and with veins that are extremely visible because the H. Upmann Edición Limitada 2012 features a wrapper made of top leaves of the 'Tapado' —shade-grown— black Cuban tobacco plants. The color and texture of the wrapper are unique characteristics that identifies these special production cigars.
Once you light up this cigar, the peppery and woody notes will fill your mouth immediately. With a nice whitish and very firm ash, the first third of this cigar is extremely bold as it smooths down a little bit as you get to the second third. With no burn outs at all, the smoke is steady and full with every puff. As you reach the last third of the cigar, the flavor evolves and intensifies greatly with strong leather, dark chocolate and peppery notes. Approximate burning time around 45 to 50 minutes depending on how often you sip from that ice cold 'Cuba Libre' by your side. Without a doubt an exceptional cigar made for experienced cigar smokers that is bold and smooth at the same time.
