Baselworld 2018: De Bethune DB27 Titan Hawk V2. Hands-on with the New Entry Level Watch from this Independent.

After a couple of years without releasing any novelties, De Bethune made a come back last January 2018 with the release of the DB28 Steel Wheels. A week ago at Baselworld 2018, De Bethune added two new pieces to their lineup and one of them is the new DB27 Titan Hawk V2 we have here and its sibling with silvered white dial. While the new De Bethune DB27 Titan Hawk V2 is the new 'entry level' watch for this manufacture, the design and finishes clearly embrace the principles and values of the manufacture without cutting any corners. While the watch we reviewed is a prototype and not a finished product, we were still impressed with the finishes even at such stage of the release of this new watch.

Fitted with a titanium round shaped middle case with a diameter of 42.60 mm and a thickness of 9.20 mm, the DB27 Titan Hawk V2 features redesigned floating lugs and a gorgeous queen blue colored dial with a multi-layer construction.

Things to Know About the Watch

The queen blue dial features a textured center with an applied silhouette of the signature De Bethune triangular-shaped bridge, smooth outer rings with white Roman numerals and stylized minute track also in white. The hands are skeletonized with highly polished tips and the overall layout and design of the dial is very well balanced. The hue of blue chosen for this watch is simply out of this world and a stunner in person.

The winding crown, capriciously placed at 12 o'clock —like on most De Bethune watches— adds even more intricacy to the revolutionary design of the De Bethune DB27 Titan Hawk. Additionally, the crown features the same ridges that appear on the case band. The watch is delivered on a blue alligator strap with lighter blue contrast stitching. The strap is secured by a pin buckle in matching titanium.

The Movement

Turning the watch over, reveals another dimension that entices the eyes. The display case back with anti-reflective treatment on both sides allows for full and unobstructed view of the lavishly hand decorated De Bethune automatic calibre S233 composed of 217 parts and a gorgeous oscillating weight in titanium and tungsten with blue accent. The movement features the De Bethune signature balance spring with flat terminal curve on a redesigned balance wheel. While beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph, the movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the De Bethune DB27 Titan Hawk V2 wears true to its size and with incredible wrist presence. A true example of 'haute horlogerie' that doesn't come with an astronomical price tag —same price as the first DB27 Titan Hawk from 2012— and where no corners were cut by the brand. Elegant, sporty and very refined are some of the words that come to mind after reviewing this gorgeous blue timepiece.

Sticker Price CHF37,000 Swiss Francs —approximately $38,700 USD. For more info on De Bethune click here.
