Insider: De Bethune DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT. Celebrating the Brand's 20th Anniversary.
This year 2022, De Bethune celebrates its 20th anniversary. After two decades dedicated to the execution of superb horology and right on time for the SIAR 2022 —largest watch event in Latin America that takes place in Mexico City— which kicked-off yesterday , the Manufacture is unveiling its 30th in-house calibre with the release of the DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT.
In January2021, De Bethune presented the DB Kind of Two Tourbillon with a double dial that was simply incredible. Now, it presents the DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT, offering two dials and completely different looks with a different time zone on each of its sides and a deadbeat seconds complication on one of them.
Double-sided watches are not a recent invention and for more than two centuries, they’ve offered a solution to display a greater number of complications and indications in one timepiece. For the DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT, De Bethune has clearly not taken the easiest path. The two very different dials on this watch are both aesthetically and technically pleasing.
Things to Know About the Watch
The DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT is perfectly reversible and can be worn on either side. Equipped with a case in grade 5 titanium measuring 43.3 mm in diameter and 11.4 mm in thickness, the watch houses a highly sophisticated mechanism based on a complex system of gears and pinions arranged on the front or back of the watch, and which enables the hands to turn in the right direction, regardless of the dial chosen. On one side the jumping hour hand of the GMT function, on the other the central jumping deadbeat seconds hand. Powering this new watch is the manual wound calibre DB2517 composed of 394 parts and which provides a power reserve of 4 days while beating at a frequency of 36,000 vph when fully wound.
The GMT side offers a more traditional approach with a white dial and Arabic numerals features a finely hand-guilloché central part surrounded by the numerals and where the signature De Bethune titanium blued hands take the center stage.
On the other side, the dial takes a more aggressive and contemporary look in all De Bethune fashion with a partially skeletonized dial that highlights the mechanics. For this dial, the hour indication is centered on the balance wheel at 6 o'clock, accompanied by the minute index on the periphery. Extensive work has been done on integrating polished, curved shapes, matte or polished components, different thicknesses and levels, by creating a sensation of ample space and optimal volume. The deltoid-shaped bridge is perfectly symmetrical and is positioned in the center.
On the Wrist & Price
