Insider: Chopard L.U.C All-in-One. A Stunning Grand Complication with 14 Indications and Tourbillon.

The Chopard L.U.C All-in-One smoothlessly combines extreme complexity with distinctive elegance. A Grand Complication with 14 indications featuring a tourbillon, a perpetual calendar, equation of time and astronomical orbital moon phase, the All-in-One is a daring and bold combination housed in an 18K rose gold case with a hand guilloché dial. Proudly bearing the Poinçon de Genève hallmark the rose gold L.U.C All-in-One is available in a limited edition of 10 watches. While the equation of time is not necessarily one of the best understood horological complications, it is for sure a true feat of horology and micro-mechanics. The equation of time is one of the rarest and most fascinating horological complications and it serves to display the difference between mean solar time, corresponding to civil or standard hours and minutes, and true solar time, meaning the actual solar hours and minutes.

With the improvement of timekeeping precision, watches and clocks became the basis of time and true solar time was replaced by mean solar time, within which each day has the same duration of exactly 24 hours. Mean solar time may show a discrepancy with true solar time ranging from minus 16 minutes to plus 14 minutes. On just four days a year, the two times are exactly the same.

Things to Know About the Watch

The L.U.C All-in-One is endowed with a massive 46 mm 18K rose gold case sourced from "Fairmined" certified mining cooperatives. The case features a mirror polished bezel and mirror polished top on its lugs and a nice vertical satin-brushed finished caseband. In a perfect color combination, the watch is fitted with a gorgeous silver toned hand guilloché gold dial, with beams radiating from the date, snailed silver-toned inner bezel ring with red and black transfers, 18K rose gold hour markers and dauphine hands.

Some of the signature features on the dial side of the L.U.C All-in-One include the signature large twin-aperture date display at 12, complemented by indications of the day of the week, day/night indication, month, leap year and tourbillon at 6 o’clock with running seconds indicator.

With its incomparable style and its hand-sewn brown alligator leather strap with pin buckle, the L.U.C All-in-One asserts itself at first glance through a strong aesthetic picking up the key characteristics of the L.U.C collection.

The Movement

The beating heart inside the Chopard L.U.C All-in-One is the manual wound L.U.C calibre 05.01-L entirely developed and produced by Chopard. This manual wound movement features 42 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph and provides a power reserve of 9 days —216 hours— thanks to its L.U.C Quattro Technology with two sets of two stacked barrels. Additionally, the movement features power reserve indicator on the back as well as equation of time with sunset/sunrise times and an orbital moon-phase display that guarantees graphic and accurate readings of the age of the moon, with a mere one-day deviation in 122 years.
