Baselworld 2018: Omega Diver 300M Titanium Tantalum Limited Edition. Live Pictures & Pricing.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Omega Seamaster 300M launched in 1993, this year at Baselworld 2018, Omega decided to present 14 new models that have been released as part of a complete makeover to the watch that includes a larger case size measuring now 42 mm in diameter, a new movement —calibre 8800—, polished ceramic dials, reshaped hands, ceramic bezels and even new materials that go beyond what we are used to see from Omega, amongst other updates.

Within the new 14 unique models, one in particular stood out based on what we typically like. We are talking about the new Omega Diver 300M Titanium Tantalum Limited Edition. A model inspired by the ultra rare tantalum Seamaster Diver 300M from 1993, this year Omega is paying tribute to that 1993 release by introducing a special model with tantalum in a limited edition of only 2,500 pieces. While the watch doesn't have a tantalum case as we would've liked, this is a great looking watch.

About the Watch

Sized at 42 mm, this Limited Edition model follows the same facelift principles as the rest of the new Seamaster Diver 300M collection including the new conical helium escape valve, wave-edged case back and the integrated bracelet. However, in this version, tantalum has been used for the base of the bezel, as well as in the middle links of the bracelet. The metal’s blue-greyish tones offer a subtle contrast to the grade 2 titanium, which Omega opted for the satin brushed case and bracelet.

Additionally, in order to create an even greater level of contrast and wow factor, the new Omega Diver 300M Titanium Tantalum Limited Edition includes touches of 18K Sedna gold as present on the crown, bezel insert, helium escape valve, bracelet center links, the hands, dial markers and on a small plaque —which includes the limited edition individual serial number for each watch— affixed to the left caseband next to the helium release valve.

The gorgeous grey dial with laser-engraved wavy pattern is made of titanium with raised applied markers and hands in 18K Sedna gold.

The Movement

Turning the timepiece over reveals a display case back featuring a gray imprinted Omega Seahorse, the iconic symbol associated with the Seamaster line. Through the sapphire crystal, the automatic Master Chronometer movement 8806 can be appreciated. This movement that is certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology —METAS— is a self-winding 35-jewel movement that provides a power reserve of 55 hours when fully wound while beating at a frequency of 25,200 vph. Additionally the movement is anti-magnetic to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the watch wears very nicely but much smaller than its actual size. Had this watch been released at 45 mm and with a full tantalum case we would've given it a perfect ten. However, the watch includes very little tantalum making it less interesting. While the contrast between its grey color scheme and the 18K Sedna gold is simply perfect, the price tag is a little bit too high for what you are getting. Available in a limited edition of 2,500 pieces.
