Baselworld 2016: Presenting the new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel. Hands-on Review, Live Pictures & Pricing.
Our friends from Biel not only wowed everyone this past week during Baselworld 2016 with the launch of their amazing Cognac Watch, but also with the newest addition to the Armin Strom collection. Upping up their game with the launch of one of the sexiest pieces at Baselworld 2016 and another favorite here at WatchCollectingLifestyle, the new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel takes its cues from a robot named 'The Edge'. With its striking movement design and larger case size measuring 46.8 mm x 13.2 mm in black PVD stainless steel, the new Armin Strom Double Edge Barrel brings a new level of intensity to the offerings from the masters of skeletonization. Bold, powerful and impressive are the words that come to mind with this new timepiece.
The new Baselworld 2016 Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel features very unusual geometric and angular components on both its case and movement. The black PVD case is very masculine, rugged and sporty. While maintaining certain elements of their DNA intact, like the lip at 6 o'clock and the round case construction with angular lugs, the new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel, brings new elements to the table, like the never before seen sturdy prominent crown guards that embrace the signed Armin Strom crown, its carved out caseband and lugs and the cutout hash markings on its bezel.
Fitted with a perfectly openworked dial with a black dial ring, the new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel features white Arabic numerals throughout the whole snailed ring like never before. The Spider-shaped crown wheels visually dominate the dial, complemented by the hour indicators and the subsidiary running seconds with disc power reserve indicator. Adding to the design, cross-grinding decoration of the hand-beveled bridges intensifies the watch's industrial look and feel.
The new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrell is delivered with a non-hornback black alligator strap with white contrast stitching or with a black/gray alligator camo looking strap with red contrast stitching —without a doubt, the coolest strap we saw during Baselworld 2016— and fitted with a double-folding deployant clasp in black PVD stainless steel. Additionally, the watch comes with a black rubber strap.
The new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel is powered by the Armin Strom manual wound calibre ARM16 composed of 194 parts, 32 jewels and with double going barrel. The movement beats a frequency of 18,000 vph to provide a power reserve of 8 days. As it is the norm with Armin Strom, the movement is exceptionally finished and extremely well decorated with spider-shaped crown wheels on the dial side, cross-grinding decoration on bridges and escape wheel and pallets made of massive gold with hardened functional areas.
On the wrist, the watch wears slightly smaller than its actual size and more like a 45 mm watch. The wrist presence is out of this world and extremely rugged and sporty, especially with our choice of strap being the camo with red contrast stitching. The new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel is definitely a must have from Baselworld 2016 and also a perfect example of a well thought-out design evolution for the brand. The new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel is available in a limited edition of 100 pieces and its water resistant to 50 meters.
