Introducing: Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02 Selfwinding. A Tribute to Brutalism.

Following the footsteps of the [RE]Master01, launched in 2020 reinterpreting a rare chronograph from 1943, Audemars Piguet now presents a new limited edition within the [RE]Master series. The new Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02 ref. 15240SG is a tribute to ‘Brutalism’ in a 250-piece limited edition inspired by the reference 5159BA from 1960. Over the years, Audemars Piguet has used a wide variety of materials, colors, and case forms, ranging from traditional geometries such as the circle, square, and rectangle, to more unexpected trapezoidal or octagonal shapes.

Brutalism, a style characterized by its rugged and raw aesthetic, found a prominent advocate in Le Corbusier, the influential Swiss-French architect. Embracing geometrical forms and the use of exposed concrete, Le Corbusier is renowned for his vision of modern urban design. His iconic works, such as the Unité d'Habitation in Marseille, exhibit the uncompromising nature of brutalist architecture, emphasizing functionality and a distinctive, industrial beauty. Le Corbusier's innovative approach continues to inspire architects and designers worldwide, leaving a lasting legacy in the realm of brutalism.

The [RE]Master02 Selfwinding pays tribute to a Brutalist-inspired watch created in 1960 as the Model 5159BA. This watch reference 5159BA was launched in 1960 and produced in only seven units, one of which is on display in the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet. With its asymmetrical 27.5 mm rectangular case in 18K yellow gold and a dial that breaks with the codes of classic watchmaking, the reference 5159BA is a unique watch like no other.

“Between 1959 and 1963, Audemars Piguet created more than 30 asymmetrical models, most of which were produced in less than 10 pieces. [RE]Master02 is a fantastic opportunity to revive this forgotten golden age.”

Things to Know About the Watch

The new Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02 ref. 15240SG is equipped with an asymmetrical rectangular case measuring 41 mm across, the case is made of the new 18K sand gold alloy presented by the brand earlier this year. The dial is parted in Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 color —the same color as the dial of the Royal Oak Jumbo from 1972— creating unique effects of light and texture.

The case of [RE]Master02 ref. 15240SG.OO.A347CR.01 is fully crafted in sand gold, a new 18K gold alloy whose hue varies between white and pink gold depending on the light and the movement of the wrist. This new material, which takes its name from sand dunes, is composed of gold, copper, and palladium for a warm appearance. The watch is delivered on a blue contrasted alligator strap equipped with an 18K sand gold pin buckle. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters.

The Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 parted dial that combines different geometries. It is subdivided into twelve individually machined brass triangles that have been decorated with a linear satin finish before being placed on a brass plate with minuscule feet. The triangles are separated by sand gold partitions that facilitate the reading of the time.

The new Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02 houses the Calibre 7129, an extra-thin hour-and-minute movement without date indication that is based on the Calibre 7121. This 31-jewel automatic movement is composed of 211 parts and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph to provide a power reserve of 52 hours when fully wound.
