Experience: How a Richard Mille RM 17-02 Tourbillon Titanium Gets Assembled

Here is how the Richard Mille RM 17-02 Tourbillon Titanium gets assembled. Symbolizing the pinnacle of traditional watchmaking and excellence, the RM 17-02 tourbillon in grade 5 Titanium encapsulates Richard Mille's profound dedication to mechanical ingenuity. A symphony of blue, gold, and black PVD treatments intertwines with the microblasted surfaces, casting a spellbinding allure.

The calibre, case, and display of information are developed to ensure superlative build quality, absolute precision, and strong shock resistance. This harmony goes well beyond the surface. It also fosters a dialogue between techniques of haute horlogerie and cutting-edge materials. A true distillation of the brand’s identity, the RM 17-02 Tourbillon, with its manual-winding movement, embodies the principles of this uncompromising distinction.

The Movement Assembly

The assembly process begins with the assembly of the movement and all the components that are part of it. The baseplate and bridges created from ribbed, grade 5 titanium, provide this movement great rigidity, as well as precise surface flatness which is essential for the perfect functioning of the gear train.

The Dial Assembly

Light yet strong, the architecture of this watch houses the tourbillon Calibre RM17-02. The sapphire dial spans this complex structure to showcase its many components. Bridges gleam with blue PVD treatment and 5N gold. The baseplate, supporting the tourbillon movement with a variable-inertia balance wheel and fast-rotating barrel, is machined from grade 5 titanium with a black PVD treatment. After the movement has been assembled, then it’s the turn of the tourbillon that will be placed in the front of the watch on the dial side. After adding the tourbillon the sapphire crystal dial is added along with the hands.

The Case Assembly

After the movement and dial are put together along with the hands, the case is finally assembled with no less than 36 components. The tripartite case is secured with its gaskets and spline-shaped screws all by hand and the winding crown is finally inserted into position.

The Strap Assembly

Finally, to complete the watch at a hundred percent, the strap is secured and the watch comes to completion. One final inspection of the watch after its assembly is needed and then the watch is ready to be shipped to its point of sale.

With the Richard Mille RM 17-02 Tourbillon in titanium, the brand delivers a creative manifesto of the Richard Mille spirit: a subtle balance of refinement and power, a constant dialogue between performance and a distinctive style.
